Kigali — The Senate yesterday endorsed the establishment of the National Law Reform Commission that will take over and oversee the formulation and laws.
"The Commission will be in charge of scrutinizing laws to avail room for proposals to concerned authorities that can amend and ratify the laws," reads a parliamentary Statement in part.
It added that the commission would have the power to propose and advise the removal of some articles in laws that may no longer be applicable.
It will also be charged with coordination and merging of laws, research on laws and coordinating international laws together with international treaties that Rwanda has signed.
The Senatorial approval of the bill establishing the commission comes at a time when most of the laws that are passed by the Lower Chamber of Parliament are reversed by the Senate for a more sober scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the Senate yesterday established an ad hoc committee that would inspect and analyze the operations of the Fund for Genocide Survivors (FARG).
This comes in the wake of a damning report that exposed rot within the Fund.
The Committee Chaired by Senators Agnes Kayijire and deputized by Faustin Munyakabera, will particularly look into the construction of survivors houses and the how the Fund uses it budget.
