Kampala — HOTEL Inter-Continental, Nairobi was the rendezvous spot as Uganda's High Commissioner to Kenya, Angelina Wapakhabulo, hosted hundreds to mark Uganda's 47th Independence anniversary.

It was Wapakhabulo's first public function after she replaced Brig. Edward Kyaligonza over two months ago. Kyaligonza is now envoy in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The anniversary was marked in style as she told potential foreign investors to capitalise on the unexploited opportunities, saying there had been improvements in Uganda's political, economic and socio-cultural development, thus the need for more investors. "To the development partners many of whom are represented here tonight, I say your support to Uganda is cherished and is evidence of a strong bond of our friendship," she said.

She added: " Fellow East Africans, I thank you for the efforts that are enhancing our bilateral relations, which in turn are gradually translating into creation of a solid regional economic block ultimately leading to a political federation for East Africa."

Wapakhabulo challenged Ugandans to take up business opportunities in Kenya both individually and through partnerships.

She appealed to African leaders to build and strengthen regional blocks, which will form the foundation for a united and prosperous Africa. "When we celebrate Uganda's anniversary, we look ahead to the day when all of us will be celebrating the East African anniversary and ultimately the AU anniversary."
