Nigeria: Apapa Club Hosts Quadrangular Games

Lagos — Apapa Club will come to life later this month when it hosts the annual quadrangular games. Participants at the games are expected to be drawn from Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Ikeja Country Club, Ikoyi Club 1938 and the hosts Apapa Club.

The competition holds from November 22-29.

Sola Balogun, the Games and Sports Secretary of Apapa Club said that over a dozen events would be competed for at the occasion.

Some of the events include squash, lawn tennis, ayo, scramble, snooker, table tennis, swimming, chess, 3 a-side-football, taekwondo, dart and draft.

The quadrangular games is rotated annually among the four participating clubs. The games started in 1990 and was last hosted by Apapa Club in 2005.

Participation in the games is open to members of the four clubs, their spouses and their children.

Speaking about the upcoming games, the president of Apapa Club Mohammed Yusuf said he felt happy and proud that the quadrangular games are coming up during his tenure.

"Renovation works have been completed at the three tennis courts in time for the games. The swimming pool, snooker room and table tennis section which are undergoing major renovation will also be ready for the competitions," Yusuf said.

He also called on all competing club members to use the games to keep themselves healthy while also enjoining them to come and cheer up their competing athletes.

The quadrangular games have helped to strengthen the bond of friendship between the four competing clubs. The games also help the clubs to put their sports facilities in good shape.
