The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the country's electricity transmission capacity is well above 6,500 mega watts.

The Assistant General Manager (Public Affairs) of TCN Dave Ifabiyi said in a reacting to a publication that electricity transformers for the 6,000 mega watts are yet to arrive in the country. He said it is not correct to insinuate that the transformers needed to meet the President's target of 6000mw by December 2009 are yet to arrive. He said the latest arrivals of Power Equipment are on ground and "for the avoidance of doubt, the Transmission network presently has a capacity well above 6,500mw."

"In fact, the Federal Government ordered a lot of power equipment in order to ensure a robust, flexible and efficient Transmission Network that will wheel over 6,000mw by December, 2009, over 10,000MW by December 2011 and much more as the Power Sector grows", he said.
