Uganda: Machine to Provide Time Data for Farmers

Data access and utilisation are key issues to citizens and governments worldwide. Without improved access, delivery, and sharing of Earth observation data and products, the intended applications for enhanced benefits to society will not materialise, particularly in developing countries like Uganda. Most farmers have for a long time been losing their investment and input due to lack of sufficient and real time environment information.

However, environmentalists and planners will now be able to project sufficiently with the availability of a mitigation system through use of contemporary technology of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems.

The department of Geography at Makarere University in collaboration with the African Union and European Union has acquired a GEONET Cast satellite system that will be used to detect weather forecasts and natural resources information in the move to monitor environment throughout the country.
