Nigeria: Anxiety Mounts Over Nkem Owoh

Anxiety is mounting over the kidnap of foremost Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly called Osuofia, as his whereabouts is still unknown. On Monday, Segun Arinze, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) announced that Owoh was kidnapped on the Enugu - Port-Harcourt expressway with his kidnappers reportedly demanding N15 million as ransom.

This is even as members of the guild have condemned the kidnap in a chat with Daily Champion.

Segun Arinze:

It's unfortunate. It doesn't make sense. We are not politicians; we are working and making our money. This is a dangerous trend. It will make the movie industry shift focus from the east back to Lagos where it was before because no one will like to go and do a movie in the east. They have demanded for N15 million but we in Actors Guild of Nigeria are still talking with the family.

Zack Orji:

This kidnapping must be condemned in its totality. Even if the entertainers are making so much money, they are working hard to make the money and should not be punished for doing so. The law enforcement agencies should protect Nigerians because we don't need to be going around with bodyguards because of the fear of being kidnapped.

Pete Edochie:

When they kidnapped me I thought they just stumbled into me but with the kidnap of Nkem Owoh I see it as deliberate.

This is the only country where entertainers are kidnapped but then in Nigeria the reverse is always the case. They will not hurt him however but they should release him.

Eucharia Anunobi:

This is horrible. Hope they will see reasons and let him go. We are working hard to make the society happy. The kidnappers should go and settle their grouse with government not use us as puns in the process. The movie industry is trying to polish the image of the country so why should we be kidnapped for that.

Kanayo O. Kanayo:

It's bad. It's unfortunate. The South east has become an axis of inequity. How can some people make those who want to make people happy unhappy.

It must be condemned. Actors all over the world are goodwill ambassadors and should be treated as such in Nigeria.

I am so surprised about the spate of kidnapping in Nigeria. Is it not a dent, a serious flaw in Yar'Adua's administration?
