South Africa: Boks 'Will Draw From World Cup Victory'

Johannesburg — SPRINGBOK centre Jaque Fourie believes the team's magical 2007 Rugby World Cup victory would provide the confidence they need to topple France at home for the first time in 12 years when the teams meet in Toulouse on Friday, writes Zeena Isaacs.

With victories in the Tri-Nations and British and Irish Lions series to their names this year , the Springboks are determined to beat France and Ireland at home -- feats last accomplished in 1997 and 2000 .

"Our World Cup victory will be a huge confidence booster going into Friday's game because we had a good seven weeks in France," said Fourie, part of a new centre pairing with Adrian Jacobs . "We are familiar with the conditions there and we have the experience of playing late at night there, so all we need to do now is ensure we adapt quickly."

Fourie adopted an equally positive approach to his new centre partner, saying Jacobs had already shown signs that he was comfortable at inside centre.

"It doesn't matter if you play inside or outside centre," said Fourie. "The more we play together, the better it will be for us and the team. Adi is a physical player and his distribution is good, so he doesn't have to change his game much at No12. We clicked well at training and I am excited to play alongside him."

The player also had no doubt that if they matched France's tough pack and big backs physically and defended well, they would emerge victorious in Toulouse.

"We believe in one another and our abilities and if one looks at their players, we also weigh about 105kg. But I think we are more mobile .... They are ... one-dimensional because they try to get over the advantage line using their first and second phase ball, and if that doesn't work against us, their game plan could fall flat. So we are confident."
