Local musician Mathias Walukaga will today appear in court for plea taking over allegations that he attempted to extort Shs60 million from businessman Salongo Mukasa Kasawuli.
Makindye Magistrates Court Grade One Immaculate Busingye remanded Mr Walukaga on Monday after his lawyer, Mr Isaac Walukaga, asked court to direct the prosecution to avail them with documents and exhibits they intend to use during the trial.
Prosecution alleges that on October 20, in Kampala, Mr Walukaga, with intent to extort Shs60 million from Mr Kasawuli, the proprietor of Samona Products Company, knowing the contents thereof caused him to receive a music CD containing threats of intended publication against Mr Kasawuli and said if the money is not paid to the singer, he will portray Mr Kasawuli as a witch, conman, defiler and rapist.
The State further alleges that Mr Walukaga with intent to gain Shs60 million from Mr Kasawuli threatened to accuse Mr Kasawuli or release a song that shall make the public to believe that the businessman is a person of uncouth character.
Songs banned
Mr Walukaga's remand comes hardly a week after court stopped media houses from playing two songs he composed until a pending defamation case filed by Mr Kawasuli is determined.
Mengo Chief Magistrate Philip Odoki issued a temporary injunction restraining Mr Walukaga agents and persons deriving authority under him including radio stations, television station and disco clubs from playing to the public the "Tuleppuke and Bwino Womutembeyi" songs.
