About 500 families living on Lower Namiro in Entebbe Division B Sub county are facing eviction. The tenants accuse the village chairman, Mr Paul Zikuliza, of conniving with Division B leaders to sell their land to an unknown investor who has started surveying their plots.
"Individual persons first approached the chairman wanting him to be signatory to the plots they are selling and he refused posing many question to the minds of the residents," Hajji Siraje Ssozi, a tenant said. He said surveyors have been mapping out the land without explaining anything to residents. "We chased them and called Mr Zikuliza to explain but he kept a deaf ear. He also snubbed meetings where we had invited him to explain," Mr Ssozi said.
Mr Ronald Mubiru, another tenant said he bought his plot 20 years ago and he possesses agreements that were issued to him he bought the land. He said that they approached the Resident District Commissioner's office over the matter but are yet to get help. Mr Zikuliza, however, denied having sold the land in question. "Let them bring the person who bought the land if I sold it," Mr Zikuliza said. He said he has no case to answer.
