Banjul — Ansumana Manneh, the secretary general of The Gambian community in Bissau, who also doubles as the chairman of the APRC Bissau branch, has said that due to the hard work and commitment of Gambians in Bissau, they are widely recognised all over the country.
To this effect, he commended the authorities in Banjul for creating an enabling environment for them. The Gambian community in Bissau was founded in 1975, with the aim of fostering relations between Gambians living in Bissau and to help strengthen the bilateral ties between Bissau and Banjul.
Speaking in an interview with this reporter, who recently returned from Bissau, Manneh revealed that The Gambians in Bissau are feeling like they are at home as they have a cordial relationship with the authorities in Bissau. On their cordial ties with residents of Bissau, Manneh said it is excellent, Â"because even when the hajj meat come, we share it with them. They keep our share aside, and I think all this is made possible due to the visionary leadership of His Excellency the President, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh,Â" he indicated.
According to him, they are also participating very well to the development of Bissau saying Â"whatever the government of Guinea Bissau is doing regarding the community, we are always informed and we always take part,Â". Manneh then disclosed that the Bissau-Guineans do recognise greatly the proactive role President Jammeh plays in finding a lasting peace in Bissau. This, he said was even manifested during his visit to Bissau to attend the official inauguration of the current president, Malang Bacai Sanha, where he received a heroic welcome from Bissau-Guineans.
