Foni — The community of Fass Chamen in Foni Bondali District, Western Region, recently benefited from a seed store worth over one hundred thousand dalasis (D100, 000).

Funded by Concern Universal under Fostering Agro-enterprises and Market Development for Improved Livelihoods and Economic Security (FAMILIES), the project is being implemented by Saint Joseph's Family Farms Centre in Bwiam. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the project coordinator of Saint Joseph's Family Farms, Yankuba Manneh, underscored the significance of seed store, maintaining that improved storage facility for farmers is fundamental in the management of agricultural produce especially at a time when they are expecting bumper harvest. With the availability of the new store, he noted that farmers within and outside the village will have the opportunity to keep their seeds for a longer period in an ideal condition thereby minimising post harvest crop losses.

Manneh commended the community of Fass Chamen for their contribution and participation during the implementation of the project. The head of the extension programme at the St Joseph's Family Farms, Pierre Gomez, and Mariama Bojang, a field officer, expressed similar sentiments. Both officials urged the community of Fass Chamen to make good use of the storage facility. They indicated that the project is a pilot one, which if successful would be implemented in other satellite communities.

The Alkalo of Fass Chamen, Alhaji Modou Cham, thanked Saint Joseph's for their timely intervention, and assured them that the store will be used by the community of Fass Chamen and the satellite communities. The store, he said will help them keep their farm produce and farm equipment without fear of theft. The benefactors and a cross section of the community of Fass Chamen attended the handing over ceremony.
