The Zanzibar has named three teams to represent the Isles in the Union Swimming Championship scheduled to take place on Saturday at International School of Tanganyika (IST) Upanga.
KMKM, Nyuki and Police are the teams qualified to compete in the event this year maeking its fourth edition.
Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), Secretary General, Noel Kiunsi said that the names of three teams have been forwarded to them through the Isles swimming body (ZSA).
Kiunsi said that the teams will vie against the Tanzania mainland teams namely University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tallis and JKT.
"We are in final preparations ahead of the union championship although we are yet to secure sponsorship from the stakeholders, but we will run in order to get the Tanzania champions in the game, we still need sh. 4 millions for the tournament," said Kiunsi.
He said that they expect to see exciting and competitive competition as all six teams are in intensive training ahead of the fourth edition.
Kiunsi said that the Isles teams are expected to jet in one day before the competition scheduled to start from 8am at IST Masaki.
The teams will feature in butterfly, backstroke, back crawl and breast stroke styles.
In other development; Kiunsi said that they have requested referees from Zanzibar to officiate the tournament. "This is union competition, we need referees from both two sides," said Kiunsi.
