Kampala — Elderly persons in Tororo district have urged the Government to set up a special day for them to access medical services. Difas Yoga, the district chairperson in charge of the elderly, expressed concern that old people were not respected by the public and denied access to medication.
Yoga said the elderly suffer from health-related problems, including hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart diseases, trachoma, blindness and deafness.
He made the observation while speaking during celebrations to mark the International Day of the Elderly People at King George Stadium on Friday.
The district chairperson, Emmanuel Osuna, said all departments had started including issues of the elderly in development programmes.
He added that they would consult the elderly while planning the district programmes and in decision-making.
