Daniel Nonor

11 November 2009

The Tripartite Committee comprising Government, Employers and Labour has set up a technical sub-committee to fashion out a new minimum wage to be incorporated into next years budget, which will be delivered in parliament by Dr. Kwabena Dufuor, Minister for Finance, next week Wednesday.

The sub-committee is expected to meet on Friday and Saturday to determine the new minimum wage to be agreed by the entire Tripartite Committee.

Members of the sub-committee will consider certain factors including the rate of inflation, since the last review of the minimum wage, as well as the general cost of living to arrive at the new minimum wage

Other provisions to be made in the 2010 budget would be the implementation of the single spine salary structure. In its last review, the Tripartite Committee adjusted the daily minimum wage upward by 18 per cent to 2.65 Ghana cedis, up from 2.25 Ghana cedis.
