Tunis — According to a survey conducted by the "World Cruise Destinations" magazine, the port of La Goulette was ranked 17th in the World as cruise ship destination in 2008.

Several efforts were made to modernize the port of La Goulette which is able now to provide 433 berthing operations and transit and receive 695 thousand tourists compared to 53 thousand in 1987.

These improvements have enabled the port to accommodate the largest ships in the world (334 meters long and 60 meters high with a capacity of 4 thousand passengers).

The Office of Shipping and Ports has launched a special program for the modernization of port facilities. This program aims to strengthen the infrastructure, particularly through the extension of 665 meters of new docks. Works also include the creation of a tourist village that has all the entertainment services.

La Goulette is an important part of the port system of Tunis, lying out on the coast. It is also a very important fishing port, and it has gotten a reputation of having some of the best seafood restaurants in Tunisia.
