The chair of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Mr. James Fromayan, says he has informed police and UNMIL of threats on his life, including threats on family members, emanating from Congress of Democratic Change (CDC).
He said CDC partisans threatened to burn down his house and kill him if the results are not in their favour.
Other sources say armed police have already been deployed at Mr. Fromayan's home. UNMIL has also beefed-up security around the capital.
Efforts to contact the CDC proved futile Tuesday but on Kings FM, belonging to CDC leader George Weah, there were comments of resorting to Kenya or Zimbabwe, where hundreds of people died as a result of election violence, if the CDC is cheated, with claims that they were cheated before that they will not allow a repeat.
CDC Secretary General Mr. Eugene Nagbe, once of the National Patriotic Front of Liberia and accused of dumping the body of Sierra Leone rebel leader Sam Bockarie at a funeral home when he (Nagbe) worked for former Vice President Moses Blah, contacted, said the CDC does not own Kings FM.
"It is for George Weah just as we have heard that the New Democrat is for Mrs. Sirleaf", he said in angry tunes.
Radio was key in whipping up ethnic sentiments in Kenya that led to hundreds of deaths and massive destruction. Many of those responsible will stand trial at The Hague.
