Kwaito star Mingo Touch, popular for his hit, Tsotsi, is bearing multiple stab wounds on his face and back after he was attacked by gangsters near Zola (Old Naledi) in an incident that also left his rising star rapper, killed.
With bandaged hand, stitched eye, and open knife wound in the back, Mingo walked into Mmegi offices yesterday to narrate his brush with death on Saturday night at a filling station near Old Naledi.
Mingo, real name, Aminoni Tiro Mojokeri, says he was in a car with about seven friends when the mob hit one of his friends in the car with a beer bottle. When the car, which was just driving away from the filling station, stopped the mob started stabbing the late rapper, who last year released a debut rap album, and was preparing to release another single this week.
The rapper (name withheld) died on his way to the clinic, while Mingo fell unconscious after he was stabbed and kicked around by the mobsters.
Kutlo Kewagamang, who was with Mingo's crew that night, says they were leaving a Phase IV club to Block 8, when the mob, which had followed them from the club, started attacking them. Kewagamang says it was strange because the mob seemed to target Mingo and the late rapper, as they did not harm the rest of Mingo's friends.
Another friend of Mingo, Kabelo Nyambe, also a musician, says he was shocked by the incident. "I was not stabbed despite the fact that I was in the thick of things trying to stop the mob. I know the chaps, these are the thugs who roam the streets at night, pick pocketing," Nyambe said.
Kewagamang says he wants justice to take its course. "We know the guy who killed him, and it is not the first time he has killed a person. He killed two people before, but never got prosecuted because he was a minor. I think he must be punished, it is high time justice is seen to be done."
Old Naledi station commander, Superintendent Michael Mafuthe also confirmed the incident, saying police are investigating three young men in connection with the matter.
He said so far they do not know what could have caused the death of Nkomazani, but they are still waiting for a report from a pathologist. He also confirmed that the deceased had some cuts on the stomach and below the chest that were caused by a sharp object.
