Nairobi — Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has challenged the newly-crowned Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka FC to train their sights on capturing more regional and continental titles.
Saying the sky is the limit for the club, Musyoka urged them to guard against the pitfalls that have brought down other promising teams such as internal wrangling and the introduction of politics in their management.
Musyoka, who is the patron of the club, was speaking when he received the players and their officials at his office. During the occasion, the team presented the VP with the Premier League trophy, which they lifted after beating Red Berets at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
Musyoka donated Sh200,000 to the team and assured them and the entire football fraternity in the country of the Government's support to professionalise the sport.
The VP thanked the initiators of Sofapaka Club saying it had provided an opportunity for the country's youth to exploit their talents.
Claim more glory
The club's president, Elly Kalekwa, said the boys were highly motivated by their league win and would work hard to claim more glory.
"We are very happy that we won the league and wish to assure Kenyans that we will not relax," he said.
Kalekwa called for more individuals and corporate organisations to consider sponsoring the team to enable it realise its goals.
Club chairman, Granton Samboja, thanked the East African Portland Company for their Sh12 million sponsorship to the club for next season.
Others at the function included team manager Pastor Jimmy, veteran coach Bobby Ogolla and club coach Robert Mambo.
