Seven passengers yesterday died after a bus in which they were travelling in from Fort Portal Town to Kampala overturned several times.
The 69-seater bus, which belongs to Kalita Bus Company overturned, at Kalamba village in Mubende District at around 2:30pm.
Police officers and volunteers had to cut the wreckage to remove the bodies and survivors who were stuck inside.
Central region Police spokesman Lameck Kigozi said, "Seven people died on spot. We are still monitoring the situation because some of the victims who are in critical condition have been taken to different hospitals."
Daily Monitor has learnt that the 35 passengers, who were seriously injured, were taken to Mulago, Mityana and Mubende hospitals.
Preliminary investigations revealed the cause of accident as speeding, Mr Kigozi said. Police could not establish the whereabouts of the bus driver.
According to witness, friends of the victims had to hire private cars to transport their injured relatives to hospitals as the Police could not get them ambulances.
