GOVERNMENT has with immediate effect lifted the land agency ban imposed on Solwezi Municipal Council last year because the issues that led to the ban have been resolved.
Vice-President George Kunda announced yesterday the Government was also engaging all foreign investors in the country to encourage them to observe Zambian labour laws and promote harmony with locals in areas where they invested.
Mr Kunda said at Kyawama Market during a campaign rally for the MMD candidate Albert Chifita in next Thursday's by-elections that the restoration of the land agency was progressive and not done as electioneering.
He said Government, which recently lifted the ban in Mkushi, was lifting bans on all councils that were resolving the issues raised.
"We have decided to restore land agency to Solwezi Municipal Council so that people can access land to continue building. We want as many people as possible to access land. We are satisfied that we should restore land agency to Solwezi after addressing the issues that led to the revocation," he said.
The vice-president also said the Government had engaged foreign investors on observing labour laws because it wanted the locals to benefit from investment in their areas.
"We are engaging all investors in Zambia to observe labour laws because we want the people to live in harmony with the investors. I congratulate the people in Solwezi for living in peace with investors," he said.
Mr Kunda, who praised Zambia National Marketeers Association (ZANAMA) for being a partner, encouraged investors to be involved in infrastructure development in areas where they operate to gain the confidence of locals.
He praised Lumwana Mining Company in Solwezi for the way it was helping locals, saying under the Minerals Act, locals should benefit from mining investment.
He urged the electorate to vote for Mr Chifita to replace the late area member of Parliament Benny Tetamashimba.
He said voting for the Patriotic Front (PF)-United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact candidate, Watson Lumba was giving PF leaders a foothold in the province, he insulted.
"The PF-UPND Pact candidate will be working for Sata when you vote for him. Sata is a bad man. Sata is completely useless because he insults with impunity," Mr Kunda, who wound up the four-day campaign tour of Solwezi, said.
Health Minister, Kapembwa Simbao said Mr Lumba had no idea that his sponsored party was dying, as it would soon be swallowed in the alliance by the "King Cobra" of the PF.
And wishing MMD victory in the November 19 poll, ZANAMA district secretary, Goodman Kapita said the association was committed to the government of the day and supported all its efforts to develop the country.
