Zimbabwe: 'Zim Taking Climate Change Seriously'

12 November 2009

Harare — Government is taking global climate change very seriously and will develop strategies to curb carbon emissions, a Cabinet Minister said yesterday.

Environment and Natural Resources Management Minister Francis Nhema said this while opening the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Zimbabwe annual conference in Harare.

"The challenge for our country is not only to minimise our carbon emissions and consequently reduce our carbon footprint, but also to develop adaptation strategies that can mitigate the diverse, complex and potentially damaging impacts of climate change," Minister Nhema said.

He said Zimbabwe needed to seek investment to strengthen early warning systems, disaster preparedness and management and water harvesting.
