Kigali — NATIONAL sprint champion Islam Mulinda could miss next month's Rendezvous National.
The athlete has failed to return to the track because the same knee injury which ruled him out of this year's Francophone Games which were held in Beirut.
"I'm so frustrated with this injury. I'm supposed to take a two-months rest according to my doctor," Mulinda said.
In last year's Rendezvous National, Mulinda swept the 100m with a time of 11.04. His arch-rival Saidi Ndayisaba finished second-13 micro-seconds behind.
Mulinda also won the 200m after clocking 22.38 and had set his sight at improving that time to 21.00 this year.
But with his chances of returning to full fitness for next month's event increasingly looking slim, he has set his eyes to the 2010 African Athletics Championship scheduled for April.
"I'm looking forward to the African Championships."
Mulinda will continue his recovery in Holland once he gets a Visa. In Holland, the athlete will link up with a potential agent Akim Dimal.
Rendezvous National will attract athletes from APR, Police, Schools and the civil society.
