Zambia: Nigerian High Commission Flies Back Home Efe As Mumba Protests

12 November 2009

THE Nigerian woman claiming to have been married to New Revolution Party (NRP) president Cozmo Mumba by the Unification Church was on Tuesday morning flown back back home by her country's high commission.

Dr Mumba, however, protested the Nigerian high commission's decision to fly back Evelyn Efe, saying she should have instead been handed over to Zambian immigration authorities for illegally entering the country.

Ms Efe, 31, arrived in Zambia last week but got stranded after Dr Mumba disowned her saying he did not know anything about her coming and that he never recognised arranged marrianges between people who never got to meet and love each other.

"The lady was an illegal immigrant and she should have been locked up here so that she answers charges of defamation of character, giving false information to the nation and illegally entering the country," Dr Mumba said.

Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia Folake Marcus-Bello advised Dr Mumba to stop talking about the issue to avoid further embarrassment.

"There were private phone lines used, internet, letters, priests, the unification church, taxi drivers and the intercity bus terminus officials in the whole lot of this mess," she said.

She said the evacuation of Ms Efe did not mean she had gone scot-free but that she would have to answer charges pertaining to her trip to Zambia without following a proper channel as demanded by the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
