Abuja — Residents of Nyanya and Jikwoyi last weekend called on FCT Administration to construct drainages in their areas in order to control flood.

Heavy downpour caused havoc in the areas last weekend that saw property worth hundreds of thousands of damaged.

Our reporter observed children being rescued by adults as the flood attempted to wash them away at Nyanya, while some vehicles at Nyanya and Jikwoyi developed engine faults because the flood level was high and it penetrated into car engines.

A cross section of residents spoken to expressed sadness over the damages caused by the deluge to their homes and property.

According to them, lack of good drainage systems and gutters has made residents look forward to the rainy season with fear.

"The authorities should do something fast, especially managing floods as they pose great risks to under aged children," he stated.

Another resident lamented that the flood contributes immensely to dirtying roads as it pushes garbage on the road, thereby making the area an eyesore.
