Abuja — The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar and Archbishop John Onaiyekan yesterday condemned religious crisis in the country and canvassed Muslim-Christian collaboration for peace.

The duo spoke yesterday in Abuja at a press conference of the Nigerian Inter Faith Action Association,(NIFAA) where they are co- chairmen. Sultan Abubakar described the incessant religious crisis in the country as "sheer madness" . He said Nigeria is a peaceful country, arguing that "if out of 365 days, a mad man stirs up crisis allegedly in the name of religion for just five days, we cannot then say the country is not peaceful." The Sultan said many of the so-called religious crisis were actually political in nature. "Take for instance, the Jos crisis; it was politically motivated by people who are just out to satisfy their political ambition. But they will hide it under religion when truly it was not," he said.
