Coach of First Deepwater, Erinfolami Lateef is looking forward to an impressive outing by his girls as they compete for honour in the 15th edition of Africa Basketball Champions Cup for women which dunks off tomorrow in the ancient city of Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Erinfolami, told champion Sports on arrival from Abidjan, Ivory Coast where he guided First Deepwater to win the FIBA Africa Zone-III Qualifiers in their first ever continental outing that competing against the best in Africa in Benin Republic will not be an easy task for the Zone III queens but declared that the newcomers in the African club championship will not disappoint Nigerians at the championship.
"We're going into the championship as the underdogs but we're not bordered about that. "We know it's not going to be easy championship for us but we'll approach each game one after the other and I want to assure that we'll not disappoint Nigerians," he said
Erinfolami, who described the zonal qualifiers as an opener for his young team is however not happy with the limited time his team has to prepare for the continental challenge.
"We've learnt a lot from the Zone III qualifiers which we'll help us at the championship but we've not got enough time to prepare for this championship, however we'll put in our best to make the country proud. The players are focused, they are hungry for laurels and by the grace of God they can achieve that.
First Deepwater were not even one of the favourites at the Zone III qualifiers in Abidjan but they surprised all by emerging winners at the competition ahead of Ivory coast's CSA & ABC and First Bank,
