Nigeria/Kenya: Prays For Success As Eagles Depart For Nairobi

11 November 2009

Lagos — The former Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima said he has prayed for the Super Eagles to win this weekend match and for them to be at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa. The team will depart for Nairobi this evening.

On Nigeria's chances against the Harambee Stars, Galadima said "Like any other patriotic Nigerian, my wish is for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup. We have prayed for the team we are looking forward to them performing well on Saturday."

He maintained that the best Nigerians can do now is to pray for the team to pick the ticket on Saturday adding "We need the ticket so let the team go all out and fight for us."

"I thank God for sparing my life to come and see the efforts I gave in to the development our football level."

On the lesson Kano Pillars learnt following their failure to get to the final of the continental championship, Galadima while noting that his assignment with Kano Pillars ended with the CAF Champions League added that the team did well in the continental engagement by reaching the semi final.

He argued that Kano Pillars is the first Nigerian team to reach the semi final stage in the CAF Championship in the first attempt and noted that they had learnt some lessons.

He further noted that Pillars has a management that was in place before he came in and ran the special committee set up by government, saying, "What happens to the team in future is not in my hand. I have finished my assignment and Pillars went as far as it went, no Nigerian team has ever in the Champions League in the first attempt reached the semi final and for that we should be commended."
