Nigeria: Abia Assembly Tasks FG on Deregulation

Umuahia — ABIA State House of Assembly has urged the Federal Government to embark on nationwide enlightenment of the populace on merits of the proposed total deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

The House also urged Abians to participate fully in the art of lawmaking by sponsoring bills and bringing to the attention of the lawmakers any matter that affects their welfare.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Chief Chinedum Elechi, made the call when members of the executive council l of the Correspondent Chapel of the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), paid him a courtesy visit .

Elechi, who received the delegation in his office on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, noted that the House was watching with keen interest the on-going debate on the deregulation of the petroleum sector.

According to him, this is responsible for the delay in the intervention of the lawmakers in the current high price of petroleum products in the state.
