Budding golfer Frank Roman of Arusha has recorded a four-point lead in the Order of Merit as the end of the 2009 golf season draws closer.
The Order of Merit is the player's performance recorded from all golf tournaments sanctioned by the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) in two conferences. The TGU's secretary general, Foti Gwebe said early this week Roman had an edge over the rest after earning 31 points, beating his club mate Elisante Lembrice, who has 28.
According to him, Adamu Mwanyenza of Dar es Salaam was third with 23 points, edging out his club mate Athumani Chiundu with a point difference. Abass Adam scored 22 points to claim the fifth place ahead of Arusha's Jimmy Mollel who has 16 points.
Dar es Salaam's Michael Makala has sealed the sixth position tying with the Morogoro Open winner, Iddi Mzaki on 12 points. The ninth golfer was John Leons who accumulated 10 points followed by Aidan Nziku with 7.6 points.
Dar es Salaam will next week host the final round of the Tanzania Open series that will serve to pick the 2009 golfer of the year.
