Pretoria — President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Mozambican President Armando Guebuza following his re-election to serve a second term.
"I would like to reconfirm my appreciation of the excellent, historic and neighbourly relations that exist between our two countries and between its peoples," Zuma said in a statement.
He said it was his wish that the warm and close ties between South Africa and Mozambique continue to prosper during Guebuza's new term of office.
Guebuza and his ruling Frelimo party were on Wednesday confirmed as frontrunners of the national elections. The party, which has been in power since 1975, also increased its dominance.
