Accra — As part of its corporate strategy to contribute towards fighting cyber crime, iBurst Africa has donated 10 modems, in addition to the allocation of "connect & go!" traffic vouchers for use by officers of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
As part of this collaboration, the CID and iBurst Africa will unveil the groundbreaking concept of a regular column on the iBurst Africa website - www.iburstafrica.com - for the dissemination of information which will assist individuals and organizations who use the internet on a regular basis to protect their identity as well as electronic records.
This column would also serve as a forum for the announcement of data which arises from developments in the ongoing proactive stance by the Police towards reducing the high levels of cyber fraud. In addition, iBurst Africa will arrange periodic interaction by officers of the police department with existing and potential customers about issues pertaining to cyber crime and related matters.
The management of iBurst Africa, in discussion with the Public Relations Department of the Police, made the commitment when the police expressed deep interest in collaborations of such nature to enable the law enforcement body effectively deal with this menace which is counter-productive and has the potential to negatively affect all aspects of the Ghanaian society.
According to Tony Dadzie, Chief Executive Officer of iBurst Africa in Ghana, "As we indicated previously, the fight against cyber fraud needs to be a multi-stakeholder approach. This gesture is simply a demonstration by iBurst Africa of a practical and effective way of liaising with the Ghana Police Service to ensure that they have the requisite resources to play a proactive role in this critical endeavour. We believe that this is only the beginning of a long-term relationship between two like-minded partners aimed at enhancing internet usage in Ghana."
