Koforidua — Mr. Tawiah Boateng, the Eastern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared his intention to contest the deputy National Organizer position of the party.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle at Koforidua on Tuesday, this week, the outspoken NDC executive said his hard work as New Juaben Constituency Organizer, Regional Welfare Officer and Regional Organizer has given him the needed experience to assume a national position in the party.
According to the aspirant, since he belongs to the lower class, which forms the majority of the party's grassroots and floating voters, he would be in the position to win more sympathizers to the party, since he understands their language very well, and vice-versa.
When asked by this reporter whether the position was not too big for him, considering the task ahead, that is to mobilize and increase the total vote recorded by the party in the last elections, Mr. Boateng responded in the negative, adding that he has done it before and he still has what it takes to repeat it.
According to him, it was through his hard work that made the party to increase its votes, leading to the recapture of the Asuogyaman Constituency seat from the NPP in the last elections. "I am of the conviction that my hard work as a Constituency Organizer, Regional welfare Officer and two times Regional Organizer will be the magic wand to win the election", he said
He further maintained that the incumbent Deputy Organizer, Mr. Yaw Gyan Boateng, having served in that capacity for some time now, and has decided to contest the National Organizer position. Mr. Boateng thinks he would be the appropriate replacement to the workaholic Yaw Gyan Boateng, since he has the ability to sell, explain policies and philosophies of the party to the grassroot members.
"The party needs people with the needed managerial skills and technical know-how if it really wants to retain power in 2012, since the task ahead is a tall one to climb", Mr. Boateng maintained. He mentioned that even though it was too early, he was of the view that NDC would teach the New Patriotic Party (NPP) another political lesson, come the 2012 general elections.
He further observed that the good work that the NDC government has embarked upon; such as construction of roads, hospitals and schools among others, even in the face of the hard economic difficulties justifies the ruling party's commitment and readiness to move the country in the right direction.
That notwithstanding, he cautioned party members, particularly the executives, not to relent on their efforts to inject new life into the party as they get closer to the grassroots members. Mr. Boateng, without mincing words, used the opportunity to condemn the recent violence that erupted across the country, during the party's constituency congress.
