Kampala — The long-running feud between Samona Products proprietor, Ssalongo Mukasa Kasawuli, and 'Kadongokamu' singer, Mathias Walukagga, finally came to a boil when the latter was imprisoned for allegedly soliciting money from the former.
Kasawuli, feeling that the lyrics in Walukagga's songs are insulting him and undermining his business, took the fight to the courtroom. The two men are allegedly feuding over a girl, Aisha Nabukeera, although the married Kasawuli denies this.
In Katulepuke, Mathias Walukagga promises his fans that it's a beginning of a long battle ... "Nkyaleeta bwiino, katandika butandiisi. Kenaakomawo ngenda kuleeta bwiino w'omutembeyi (I am still spilling the beans about the hawker). Samona tycoon Kasawuli apparently started off as a hawker and photographer, professions Walukagga attacks in his second song Bwiino w'Omutembeyi.
Walukagga sings: "ebizigo byo biddugaza buddugaza, bisaana kukuba ngatto; bwenabyesiigako byannumya nsiri" (Your lotions just darken people and should be used as shoe polish; when I tried using them, they attracted mosquitoes).
This, Kasawuli and his lawyers argue, was a veiled attack on Samona body products.
In Bwiino w'Omutembeyi, Walukagga also accuses someone he doesn't name of child sacrifice, theft and witchcraft, among other crimes. Kasawuli says it's him the singer is referring to.
In Katulepuke, the singer advises a lotions hawker to concentrate on selling his products instead of fighting for a girl.
However, Kasawuli said in a recent interview that he cannot share a woman with Walukagga. The girl in question was a bar attendant at AY Makindye before she went to work at Kasawuli's Pacify Hotel in Wakaliga. Those who know Kasawuli say that Bwiino w'Omutembeyi describes his professional life in detail.
The bad blood took a new twist when Walukagga allegedly tried to solicit Shs 60m from Kasawuli in exchange for not releasing Bwiino w'Omutembeyi. That is now the matter in court.
Walukagga was remanded in Luzira Prison on Monday and his case was scheduled to be heard in court yesterday (Wednesday).
Earlier last week, court issued an injunction stopping the distribution and playing of Walukagga's controversial songs, and while at Nateete he told his fans that Kasawuli had taken him to court so he needs help to look after his children. Fans stormed the stage with money.
It is believed that Kasawuli also mobilised sympathetic singers to hit back at Walukagga. One of these is allegedly Fred Nkambwe whose song Oluyimba lwa Fred Luyombo - Majegere, has a chorus that goes: "Eno majegere owalampye katapira; majegere ggyayo ekigere yandikimenya ppaka ku nkobogo... (You are playing with a Caterpillar, withdraw lest it breaks your knock-kneed legs).
Phoebe Nassolo's is another musician with a song that allegedly targets Walukagga. In his Bwiino, Walukagga is understood as calling the two artistes failures that cannot shake him. Distributors who bought the rights to the songs have threatened to take Kasawuli to court, claiming millions in losses after his court injunction. Abtex Productions bought rights to Katulepuke while X-Zone International bought Bwiino w'Omutembeeyi.
