Nairobi — A section of cabinet members from ODM and PNU on Thursday morning held separate meetings at Serena Beach Hotel in Mombasa to strategise ahead of Friday's meeting which is expected to be attended by Ministers, their assistants and permanent secretaries.

The meeting which will be the first to include permanent secretaries since formation of grand coalition government is expected to be chaired by President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The ministers from ODM party led by Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi held their meeting to brainstorm and propose some of the issues which need to be discussed in the two day meeting.

Mr Mudavadi was optimistic the meeting will bear fruits compared to that of Kilaguni retreat which was called off after the members differed on agenda.

"We expect to discuss issues affecting the government and try to come up with ways of improving service delivery to Kenyans," said Mr Mudavadi.

Mr Mudavadi said some of the issues expected to be discussed are some of the controversial Bills still pending in the parliament.

Mr Paul Otuoma who was also at the hotel said the meeting is expected to give direction on how Ministers, assistant Ministers and permanent secretaries will be working.

"We have experienced several wrangles in different ministries and that is why we are meeting to iron them out," said Mr Otuoma.

Some of the ministers who were present in the ODM side are James Orengo and Salley Kosgei.

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Mutula Kilonzo led a congregation of more than five PNU ministers in a meeting to set agenda of what they will present to the meeting.

Mr Uhuru said the main aim of the meeting was to bond and to expedite the government performance. He said the two day meeting will also discuss how to speed several reforms in the country.

Mr Mutula hinted to the Nation that some the issues expected to be discussed include how the parliament is being conducted.

Mr Mutula said so many things are lagging behind in parliament because the House does not have person to direct it.

"We expect to discuss how we can select a Leader of Government Business since it is eight months since Speaker took the mantle to lead house matters," said Mr Mutula.

Some of the ministers from PNU side who attended the meeting include Sam Ongeri and Moses Wetangula.
