Tunis — Tourism Minister Mr. Khelil Lajimi, paid a working visit on Tuesday to UK, as part of Tunisia's participation in the 30th edition of the "2009 World Travel Market (WTM)", the premier global event for the travel industry, which is taking place from November 9 to 12, 2009 at the ExCel Exhibition Center, in London.

Over 50,000 world tourism professionals from 187 countries are taking part in this event.

During meeting on the international tourist situation, organized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Mr. Lajimi stressed the impact of the economic crisis on the world tourist landscape and urged European decision-makers to include measures to assist European economic growth.

These measures will help stimulate demand on holidays and leisure, he added.

In Tunisia's stand, the minister had several working sessions with major British travel operators who are marketing the Tunisian tourist product.

Mr. Lajimi expressed Tunisia's willingness to support the initiatives of the British operators, mainly those designed to promote the opportunities offered by Tunisian tourism, such as Golf, Saharan tourism, cultural tourism and thalassotherapy.

Mr. Lajimi also called for the establishment of a Tunisian-British partnership that reflects mutual interests and meets the expectations of consumers.
