Tunis — Tunisia took part in the 25th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the COMCEC Economic Summit, held from November 5 to 9, 2009, in Istanbul, Turkey.
Mr. Ridha Ben Mosbah, Minister of Trade and Crafts and head of the Tunisian delegation, stressed the importance of this international event in the establishment of a successful partnership between Islamic countries.
He highlighted Tunisia's sustainable development model which is based on the social and economic sectors.
The minister reviewed the initiatives undertaken by Tunisia at both regional and international levels in order to strengthen partnership and joint development, noting the initiative of President Ben Ali for the creation of a World Solidarity Fund.
Mr. Ben Mosbah stressed Tunisia's interest to identify mechanisms as well as to strengthen cooperation with the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development so as to achieve the objectives expected, including reducing unemployment rate and improving living conditions in Islamic countries.
He also urged Islamic countries to support President Ben Ali's initiative of to proclaim the year 2010, an International Youth Year.
During the meeting, Mr. Ben Mosbah conveyed the greetings of President Ben Ali to
President Gul, President of the Republic of Turkey, expressing the consideration of the President of the Republic for the efforts made by Turkey to strengthen cooperation among Islamic countries, stressing the opportunities offered by Tunisia in the promotion of Tunisian-Turkish bilateral and multilateral cooperation as well as in the strengthening of development efforts in the Islamic world.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Ben Mosbah discussed with his Algerian, Moroccan, Syrian, Yemeni and UAE counterparts as well as Saudi and Kuwaiti Minister of Finance and the Turkish vice Minister of Development and Planning, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation especially in trade.
