I think that it will be unfair to Nigerian fans if we do not win the cup on Sunday. Having got this far and playing so well, I think the cup is ours," coach John Obuh said yesterday at the Teslim Balgun Stadium where Nigeria's Eaglets beat Spain 3-1 to romp into the final of the 13th edition of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
They play Switzerland who outscored Colombia 4-0 in a one-sided game that was largely as a result of an early red card to Colombia. A defender, Santiago Arias, was red-carded for handling the ball in a goal-mouth scramble. It certainly was a harsh decision for which the referee was not applauded although the fans cheered Switzerland. Lagos had become a friendly ground for them after playing their group matches there.
"I scored again and this makes me more confident. It is so with the entire team. Our confidence is super now and all we are thinking about is the Cup. What a great end it will be if we win," Stanley Okoro, scorer of Nigeria's first goal said. He scored in the 30th minute and Sani Emmanuel scored in 61 and 71 minutes
"If you remember that our first match against Germany and how difficult it was you will appreciate our feeling this night. We thank the fans for standing behind us. People tell me about my goals and I'm happy. But the most important is our victory. It doesn't matter who scores once we keep on winning. We are in good mood for the final," Emmanuel said.
