Gambia: BAC Signs MOU With Samasang Federation

The management of Brikama Area Council (BAC) and Samasang Federation, an affiliated body to Child Fund ,The Gambia last Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation for the enhancement of development in the area, particularly on the side of empowering youth and children and information and resource sharing amongst others.

The signing of the MOU was held at the Council ground in Brikama. Momodou Gida Jallow, Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council described the signing of the MOU as historic and something that is in line with the decentralization programs of the government. The MOU, Jallow said, covers other areas like capacity building and improved service delivery.

In the words of CEO Jallow, the signing of the MOU will give a better and effective coordination of programmes within Brikama and will also lead to the reduction of waste resources as well as enhancing community participation in development initiatives.According to Jallow, the signing of the MOU will also strengthen the already cordial relationship that exists between his council and Samasang Federation. While urging other operators in the region to emulate the Federation hoping that the collaboration between the two sides will grow from strength to strength. CEO Jallow then called on the two sides to close ranks and work in the best interest of the area.

Samasang Federation Manager Edrisa A. Cham said Brikama Area Council and his Federation have had a long standing relationship that has over the years been growing from strength to strength. Mr Cham strongly hope that the signing of the MOU will enhance efficient and sustainable service delivery in the area.

Sunkary Badjie, Chairman of Brikama Area Council described Samasang Federation as a genuine partner of his council, hoping that the signing of the MOU will usher in the successful achievement of the aims and objectives the two sides shared. While reiterating the need for concerted efforts in the enhancement and achievement of their areas of collaboration in the MOU, Badjie observed that they can be successfully attained if the two sides show commitment and determination.

Momodou Jallow, Child Fund Area Manager for Samasang and Kaira Nyining Federations, said the MOU is part of an ongoing strategic planning initiative of both Samasang and Kaira Nyining Federations. He assured the management of Brikama Area CouncilÂ's unreserved commitment to the enhancement of the welfare of youth and children.

Governor Sanneh for his part said the signing of the MOU between the two sides is indeed a milestone in the development of western region. The move, he said, is in line with the blue print of Vision 2020 and the Local Government Act. Governor Sanneh used the platform to commend the government of The Gambia under the leadership of Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh for initiating projects that are geared towards sustainable development. "Brikama Area Council is central to national development initiativesÂ", he concluded. Serign Modou Joof, Public Relations Officer of the Council delivered the vote of thanks.
