Ebrima S Dem, the national co-ordinator of Global Unification (GU), has called on the youth groups in the country to have a consultative forum where they can draft a statement to be presented at the climate change conference to be held in Copenhagen in December, on behalf of the youths of The Gambia.
Dem made this call on Tuesday shortly before the closing ceremony of the conference on climate change, oragnised by the Young Journalists' Association of The Gambia (YJAG), at the Baobab Resort Hotel in Bijilo. According to him, the draft statement will represent the voice of the youths of The Gambia on what they want the world leaders to do about climate change as they are also vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change.
It is believed that climate change has continued to be a global concern and the voice of The Gambian youths will in no small way be a paramount important at the summit in Copenhagen. After the call by the GU coordinator, some youth group heads and other people who were keen about the call agreed to meet on Saturday at the Global Unification office in Serrekunda to form a task force that will ensure that the Gambian youths have their voices heard at the summit.
