One Asi Cham, a middle-age lady, yesterday appeared before Justice Joseph Wowo of the High Court in Banjul, after filing an appeal challenging her conviction and sentence by the Bundung Magistrates Court presided over by Magistrate Lamin George.

The appellant was sentenced to serve 18 months imprisonment after she was found guilty of assaulting another woman with a razor blade. When the matter came up, appellantÂ's counsel, Kebba Sanyang, told the court that all the processes in the matter have been filed.

Lawyer Sanyang told the court that the appellant is a breastfeeding mother and craved the courtÂ's indulgence to grant him a short adjournment for the hearing of the appeal. Justice Joseph Wowo then ordered the state and the appellant to file their written briefs. The matter was adjourned to November 20, 2009.
