Harare — THE Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture has extended the examination period for Ordinary and Advanced Levels until after the closure of schools.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry's secretary, Dr Stephen Mahere, urged teachers to administer the examinations professionally.
"The Ministry wishes to advise all schools and the public that this year's 'O' level examinations will commence on 26 November and end on 18 December, 2009.
"The 'A' Level examinations will commence a day later on 27 November, 2009 and also end on December 18, 2009," he said.
"The ministry is appealing to all school heads, deputy heads and teachers involved in the invigilation exercise to do their work diligently from the beginning of the examinations up to the end," he added. Dr Mahere said the extension of the examination period had been necessitated by the need to ensure that many students register. Many children failed to register because of the high examination fees and Government had to extend the period on two occasions.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahere has announced next year's school calendar. The first term begins on January 12 and ends on April 1, while the second term will commence on May 4 and end on August 5.
The third term will begin on September 7 and end on December 2.
