Zimbabwe: Sporadic Rains Received Countrywide

13 November 2009

Harare — Most parts of Zimbabwe have received rains ranging from below to above normal with Lalapanzi in Midlands Province recording precipitation levels 180 percent above normal.

Lalapanzi has so far recorded the highest accumulative total of 98mm, while Kadoma Rail is second with 77mm.

Meteorological Services Department head of weather forecasting Mr Tich Zinyemba yesterday said the onset of the rainfall season was on course with most parts of the country now experiencing rains of some sort.

"However, it's early days yet as admittedly the rainfall measured up to now has been very sporadic and light, notwithstanding, there have been some significant falls across the country," he said.

"The situation as of now indicates that the rainfall situation should continue improving in all provinces of the country."

The department said there were chances of heavy rains in Masvingo and Midlands provi-nces from tomorrow.

Farmers were encouraged to liaise with Agritex officials on how best to take advantage the rains depending on their specialisations and soil types. Yesterday afternoon, mild rains were still falling in Harare.
