13 November 2009

Harare — ALL is set for this year's CBZ Soccer Star of the Year award with the winner walking away a cool US$4 000 richer after the league sponsors committed themselves to bankrolling the awards again this season, writes Grace Chingoma.

The award presentation ceremony will be held on December 17 in the capital while the selection process will be held on November 21.

This weekend the selection panel will meet in the capital for a pre-selection indaba where they will come up with the criteria to chose the best 11 Premiership players in the country this season.

The first runner up will get US$2 000 while the second runner up while pocket US$1 400 and the eleven finalists will get US$800 each.

The Golden Boot winner will pocket US$2 000 and this year there will be a new award -- the Goalkeeper of The Year -- who will receive US$1 100.

The Coach of the Year and the Referee of the Year will get US$ 2 000 each.

For the Golden Boot, it appears a three-way race involving CAPS United hitman Nyasha Mushekwi, who has 21 goals; Gunners' Norman Maroto who has 17 goals and Dynamos' Cuthbert Malajila with 16 goals.

This year's 11 best players will certainly feature such names as Mushekwi, Malajila, Maroto, Ramson Zhuwawo, George Magariro and Brighton Tuwaya, Tafadzwa Rusike, Thabani Kamusoko, Darryl Nyandoro, Chris Semakweri, Mthulisi Maphosa, Gilbert Mapemba and Method Mwanjali.

Other members of the victorious Warriors' Cosafa squad will also fancy their chances.
