Harare — THE Zimbabwe women's Under-20 national soccer team are expected to go into camp early next week to prepare for the 2010 World Championships which will be held in Germany.

The team will get the ball rolling with a qualifier against Kenya during the weekend of December 4-6 in Nairobi with the second leg a fortnight later in the capital.

Zimbabwe received a bye in the preliminary round where they were scheduled to play Mozambique but Mozambique withdrew from the tournament.

This opened the door for the Mighty Warriors to face the Kenyan Under-20 team in the next round.

The vice-chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women's Soccer, Babra Machawira, yesterday said they were hoping to go into camp early so that the squad will have enough time to prepare for the East African adventure.

"Zifa's policy is that the team should train together for at least 10 days but we would want the youngsters to train for a longer period so that they improve on endurance," said Machawira.

"We have identified players and have been working with provincial co-ordinators and will be called into the squad by coach Langton Giwa."

She appealed for support from the corporate sector.

The U-20 team was last active in May last year when they featured in the Cosafa Championships in Angola lost in the first round.

They won the first match against Zambia 1-0 before losing to South Africa 2-1 and Botswana 2-1.

Some of the players who featured in that tournament are expected to make it into the squad for the game against Kenya because the youngest player was 14 years old then.
