Kigali — THE Fifa World Cup trophy left for Kenya yesterday after a two-day stop-over in Rwanda.
The 18-carat gold and malachite base trophy left Kigali International airport aboard Coca-Cola branded chartered plane at 9.30am.
Kenya President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga were expected to receive the iconic trophy yesterday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Tomorrow, fans will flock Nyayo National Stadium where the trophy will be on full display. The trophy will then head to Kampala in the afternoon.
Kenya becomes the fifth nation in East and Central Africa and the 35th African nation to carouse with soccer's most valuable prize that is on a 70-day tour across 53 African nations.
The trophy tour is significant in drumming up support for the 2010 World Cup finals that will be held in Africa for the first time.
