Lagos — As the on-going Lagos trade fair enters its sixth day today, the Lagos Trade Fair Police Command has confirmed that so far, no arrest has been made at the fair.

A senior Police officer, attached to the command, who pleaded anonymity, informed Daily Champion on Wednesday that the fair has been free of chaos, affirming that the security officers were trained before the commencement of the fair.

He advised participants to report any case of theft and touts mingling around the trade fair ground. The police officer said armoured tank was placed at the entrance of the fair to check cases of lawlessness. "Our men are also stationed at strategic places to protect lives and property," he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice President and Chairman of the Trade Promotion Board, Mr. Goodie Ibru had earlier said 16 Cable Television cameras had been installed at strategic points to curb violence. The Police Officer' claimed that some customers at the fair said they were satisfied with the security provided. "I am highly impressed about the security situation unlike last year, when there were cases of rape and theft,"Mr. Olu Olukoya said.

Also, Mrs. Amaka Asiegbu had this to say, "It is good we have a combined security of all the security agencies on ground". Another participant, Mr. Kayode Oni said the rate of crime at the fair has reduced compared to previous editions.

Daily Champion observed that only one gate at the fair ground was opened to the participants, which made movement very difficult for participants. Fierce-looking security men were positioned at the gates, where they frisk and screen all the visitors to the fair. Most of the people, who spoke to Daily Champion appealed to the organizers to reduce the gate free from N200 to N100 to allow more participates.

The Public Relations Manager (PRM), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the organizers of the event, Mr. Tope Oluwaleye said the Chamber is making arrangements to make movements very easy, saying in the next few days, everything would be brought to normal.
