Lagos — The Joint Task force inaugurated by the FCT Minister, Senator Muhammed Adamu Aliero to sanitize the city yesterday revisited areas previously sanitized to enforce strict compliance.
Areas visited include, Dagba; where some officials were assaulted by Okada operators, Durumi and Galadimawa where over 30 motorcycles used for illegal operations were confiscated, hard drugs were also confiscated during the operation.
The Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS/VIO), Major Arugungu .S. Adamu, who was in charge of the operation said the operation was a success as "confiscating over 30 motorcycles is a big blow to the illegal okada operators"
He lamented that 3years after the banning of commercial motorcycle operation in the city, they are still operating within the city which is a strong indication of their desperateness to flaunt the law.
Arugungu emphasized that the taskforce will not rest until the city is completely sanitized. "This is a continuous exercise that will continue until Abuja is completely sanitized, this will tell offenders that there is no hiding place for them because no matter how long it takes the law will certainly catch up with them."
He continued that for effectiveness and efficiency, they have shared out the enforcement in batches, disclosing that Wuse and Berger were raided early this week where there was massive seizure of contrabands.
On reason for engaging on foot-tracking of offenders in Dagba, he said it was to show the seriousness of the exercise and ensure there was no escape route for them. He explained that their vehicles cannot ply where their bikes use, which necessitated the use of foot-track.
