Katsina — The Chairman, Governing Board of Katsina Islamic University who is also the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussaini Adamu, has disclosed that the university had concluded arrangements to graduate its first set of 200 students. The chairman, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen at the campus of the university along Dutsin-ma road Katsina, stated that December 20, 2009 has been slated for the convocation ceremony of the university. He noted that the graduating students are from the departments of Islamic Studies, Arabic,English language and Computer Science, adding that the graduands can compete favourably with any university in the country. Adamu further added that apart from the four courses run by the university, it was also making efforts to introduce new courses especially with the near completion of the construction and equiping of three laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. According to him, the Chancellor of the university, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has so far spent the sum of N800 million on the construction of lecture halls attached with offices, 40 classrooms and laboratories. The chairman averred that the university was striving to achieve academic excellence, disclosing that Inter Ccontinental Bank has connected the institution with Eduportal. The emir therefore, tasked Muslim communities to come to the aid of the institution. "We want people to come and see what we are doing.People should come and challenge us". He stated that the university was running its affairs without any form of stress, vowing that all the stakeholders have resolved to work hard in making the university a model. The Katsina Islamic University is the first university of its kind in the whole country.
