Namibia: Unam Visual Arts Students Jewellery Exhibition

13 November 2009

Windhoek — A jewellery exhibition by the Unam Visual Arts students will open on 12 November at the National Art Gallery and will run until 23 November.

This year's UNAM student art exhibition, entitled "Fresh Art" shows the results of a packed and challenging academic year incorporating diverse curriculum and outreach activities. Through the committed efforts of lecturers and students, results of a very high standard were again achieved this year, including an exciting range of fashion accessories and garments, industry oriented textiles, advertising products, paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations.

Organisers say that a visit to this exhibition will be worth your while! The selection of artworks represents an overview of the five major disciplines offered by The Visual Arts Section of the Visual & Performing Arts Department namely: Art for Advertising; Fashion Studies; Textiles Studies; Creative Expression and Visual Culture. Apart from encouraging creative proficiency, the department accentuates a theoretical foundation in both Western and African visual culture, and an entrepreneurial application to the Namibian arts industry.

Reflecting departmental policy, social interest is an important motivation in the works of the students, which promise to provide the visitor with thought-provoking challenges.

and exhibition programme. They further thanked the Goethe-Zentrum/NaDS and the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre for their ongoing support of the outreach activities of the department and the National Art Gallery of Namibia, for its positive contribution to expose the department's students' work to a wider audience.
