Windhoek — This week marks more than two months since former employees of South West Breweries now known as Namibia Breweries Limited, have been camping outside the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) building with no apparent solution in sight.
According to Abiatar Shikongo, who has also taken residence in front of the building, there has been numerous discussion between the management of O&L and the pensioners, however no agreement has been reached thus far.
Shikongo is one of 77 other former employees who were dismissed after going on strike in 1989.
The group has been making claims for payment of outstanding pensions and compensation for loss of income leave days and compensation for hardships endured after they lost their jobs, since 2004.
O&L recently dismissed the claims of the group, saying that the company already forked out N$540 000 to settle a claim of compensation for hardship and loss of income.
A panel found that the claim for non-payment of pension funds should be made against the Pension Fund and not O&L and that termination benefits were paid to the dismissed workers already.
A meeting between the management of O&L and the group of former employees is scheduled for today (Friday, 13 November).
